Urinary Concentrations of Organophosphate Flame Retardant Metabolites and Pregnancy Outcomes among Women Undergoing in Vitro Fertilization

Conclusions: Using IVF to investigate human reproduction and pregnancy outcomes, we found that concentrations of some urinary PFR metabolites were negatively associated with proportions of successful fertilization, implantation, clinical pregnancy, and live birth. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP1021 Received: 26 August 2016 Revised: 10 April 2017 Accepted: 02 June 2017 Published: 25 August 2017 Address correspondence to C. Authors: Zeng Q, Zhao L, Wang C, Gao M, Han X, Chen C, Tu C, Han P, Li J Abstract Background: A high prevalence of autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) has been observed in patients with autoimmune liver disease (AILD); however, data on the clinical relationship between AILD and AITD remain scant. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between AILD and AITD.Methods: We performed a retrospective study using medical records from 324 patients with AILD, 113 of whom had concurrent AITD.Results: Patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) were more likely to develop AITD (45.8%), followed by autoimmune hepatitis-primary biliar...

Authors: Girish P, Jayanthi M, Gitanjali B, Manikandan S, Rajan S Abstract BACKGROUND: The medical and social impact of being overweight, as well as the difficulty in making long-term changes in diet, physical activity, and pitfalls associated with allopathic management, lure obese individuals to over-the-counter weight-loss herbal products (WHPs). However, the safety of herbals is questionable, as reports from all over the world suggest adulteration with synthetic weight loss agents. OBJECTIVE: The present study was carried out to develop a rapid and sensitive method to screen potential weight loss adulterants...

The incidence of EV-D68 infection has increased worldwide in recent years. Thus far, there are no approved antiviral agents or vaccines for EV-D68. Here, we show that methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MβCD), a common drug that disrupts lipid rafts, specifically inhibits EV-D68 infection without producing significant cytotoxicity at virucida...

This study aims to develop a machine-learning empowered technique to quantify to what extent an individual's bladder is filled by observing the filling-voiding pattern of a patient over a training period. In this experiment, a pulse-echo sonar element is used to generate ultrasound pulses while the probe surface is positioned perpendicular to the bladder's position. From the reflected echoes, four features which show sufficient sensitiveness and therefore could be modulated noticeably by different levels of liquid encased in the bladder, are extracted. The extracted features are then fed into a novel intelligent decision s...

Urquhart, Alexander IdnurmAbstractA new species is described in the Mucorales family Syncephalastraceae: Syncephalastrum contaminatum, isolated as an in vitro culture from a laboratory contaminant. The species has variable copies of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, requiring cloning of these regions prior to Sanger sequencing before subsequent use in phylogenetic comparisons with other fungi. The genome of the strain was sequenced using short paired-reads to yield a draft genome of 28.6 Mb. Syncephalastrum contaminatu...

LeemonAbstractGranular formulations of two entomopathogenic fungal isolates of Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae were evaluated as mycoinsecticides for control of lesser mealworm populations in broiler houses at a farm in southeast Queensland, Australia, over five production batches. The formulations were compared to rotated treatments of the insecticides β-cyfluthrin and spinosad, and to untreated populations. Lesser mealworm populations were measured by countin...

Abraham, Dennis W.H. Müller, Daryl Codron, Geert P.J. Janssens, Marcus ClaussAbstractThe general observation that secondary consumers ingest highly digestible food and have simple short guts and small abdominal cavities intuitively results in the assumption that mammalian carnivores carry less digesta in their gut compared to herbivores. Due to logistic constraints, this assumption has not been tested quantitatively so far...
