Long, mysterious strips of RNA contribute to low sperm count

(Case Western Reserve University) Scientists have found distinctive portions of genetic material -- known as lncRNAs -- that help sperm develop. Male mice lacking a particular lncRNA have low sperm count, suggesting lncRNAs could represent novel infertility drug targets.

ABSTRACT Introduction: We evaluated the relationship between total testicular volume (TTV) and testicular volume differential (TVD) in adolescent males with varicocele. Both low TTV and high TVD have been independently associated with higher incidences of infertility later in life, but a predictive relationship between TTV and TVD directly has yet to be described. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a database of Tanner 5 boys ages 16-21 who presented with varicocele at a single institution between 2009 and 2017. All patients had a scrotal sonogram prior to surgical intervention. TTV and TVD were calculated ...

ConclusionEndometrial HOXA-10 gene expression in women with endometriosis is significantly down-regulated than in those without endometriosis. Endometriosis patients with infertility have significantly lower levels of endometrial HOXA-10 gene expression than endometriosis without infertility; thus decreased expression of this gene may, directly or indirectly, be related with the endometriosis-associated infertility. Severe endometriosis cases express, in their both endometrium and endometrioma tissues, significantly lower levels of HOXA-10 gene than moderate endometriosis cases.

(Natural News) The Canadian equivalent of CNN has shamelessly published a climate “infographic” that suggests the number one thing everyday people can do to help “mitigate” climate change is to stop having children. Pointing to a study published in the journal Environmental Research Letters, CBC News says there’s actually nothing more effective at combating climate...

ConclusionOur study showed that the microfluidic technique does not change fertilization, CPR, and LBR during IVF treatment for couples with unexplained infertility. Despite the fact that the total number of grade 1 embryos after ICSI treatment and the surplus number of grade 1 embryos after embryo transfer were higher in the microfluidic technique group, the study was not powered to detect this difference.Trial registrationNCT02488434

Further, it can also aid in advancement of assisted reproductive technology (ART), as nowadays the failure and disquiets of ART are consistent. Herein, we have attempted to find out proteins responsible for male infertility by comparing proteome profile of sperms collected from normal control and asthenozoosper...

It can be difficult to treat infertile patients, especially when they have very unrealistic expectations of what medicine can do for them. This is because their feelings range wildly all the way from one end of the pendulum - false hope, to the other end - false despair.False hope is the expectation that I'm going to get pregnant if I do IVF ; or that IVF has a 100% success rate .Patients who do IVF treatment with this false hope will often go to pieces when their cycle fails , because they're not able to build up the courage to try again . Because they had such high (unrealistic) expectations , they cannot deal with the fr...
