[Correspondence] Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis: pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic science

Despite all efforts, the burden of disease caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis is worrisome. In The Lancet Infectious Diseases, Aditya Sharma and colleagues1 estimated an increase in MDR and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis and a shift from acquired drug resistance to transmission of resistance.1 In the accompanying Comment, Andrei Mariandyshev and Platon Eliseev2 emphasised implementation of the short-course regimen as the most important measure to prevent the spread of MDR tuberculosis.
