[Editorial] A proper place for retraction

When calls for retraction of scientific literature are issued what is the ultimate aim? Is it to correct the record? Or is it to ensure the record does not challenge cherished preconceptions? As Thomas Kuhn outlined in The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, the challenge of preconceptions is often unwelcome in research settings.
