An Obesity Paradox with Myocardial Infarction in the Elderly

Obesity clearly has numerous adverse effects on cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, including increasing levels of arterial pressure, which often leads to left ventricular hypertrophy, increasing blood glucose values, leading to metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus, worsening dyslipidemia, and increasing systemic inflammation. 1These risk factors increase the development of most CVD , including hypertension, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and coronary heart disease (CHD), which increases the risk of acute myocardial infarction (AMI).
