We assessed the utility of the DRAGON score in predicting functional outcome in stroke patients receiving both IV tPA and endovascular therapy. METHODS: A retrospective chart review of patients treated at our institution from February 2009 to October 2015 was conducted. All patients with computed tomography angiography (CTA) proven large vessel occlusions (LVO) who underwent intravenous thrombolysis and endovascular therapy were included. Baseline DRAGON scores and modified Rankin Score (mRS) at the time of hospital discharge was calculated. Good outcome was defined as mRS ≤3. RESULTS: Fifty-eight patients with LVO of the anterior circulation were studied. The mean DRAGON score of patients on admission was 5.3 (range, 3-8). ConclusionStroke CT will continue to increase the out of hours work load for CT departments across the country especially with our ageing population. It is vital that services, particularly in level 3 stroke centres, are adequately equipped in terms of staffing to meet the highest standard of care in the management of acute stroke.

CONCLUSION: LDS is characterized by genetic and clinical variability. Our report suggests that this genetically-determined connective tissue disorder is probably underestimated, as it might firstly show up with cerebrovascular events, although mild systemic manifestations. These findings could lead to identify people at risk of severe vascular complications (i.e., through genetic consult on asymptomatic relatives), in order to perform adequate vascular assessments and follow-up to prevent complications such as stroke. ConclusionIn this study, we described the use of a protective STA-MCA bypass, performed prior to the high-flow bypass, in order to reduce the risk of perioperative ischemic lesions without increasing the morbidity of the surgical procedure.
