[Comment] Influenza vaccine: going through a sticky patch

Despite strong recommendations, influenza vaccine uptake data for the UK for 2015 –16 show that actual uptake in the population targeted lags behind the goal of the national vaccine programme,1 which aims to vaccinate 75% of people aged 65 years or older, 55% of risk groups younger than 65 years, and 75% of health-care workers (national uptake is 50·6% for front-line staff).2 A systematic review3 of available scientific literature on influenza vaccine hesitancy—mostly done in the North American and European regions—shows a lack of confidence in vaccination.
