Clinical Features of Refractory Ascites in Outpatients
CONCLUSION: Patients with refractory ascites were malnourished, suffered from hernias, had a high prevalence of complications and had a high postoperative death frequency, which was mostly due to infectious processes.
Conclusions: Smoking and substance abuse are common among industrial workers. Tramadol and cannabis are the most commonly abused substances. Smoking, older age, and male sex are correlates of substance abuse. Alcohol abuse is associated with dependence.
Conclusions: These findings show that in Brazil problems related to alcohol use by the elderly remain relatively unknown. There was a high heterogeneity of methodologies in the studies, making it difficult to summarize the findings and produce prevalence estimates for the different patterns of consumption. More homogenous studies using similar definitions of patterns of alcohol consumption are required to allow comparisons to be made between different Brazilian regions and other countries.
In conclusion, powder of fruit and vegetable exhibited benefits of attracting the consumers by improving appearance, texture, nutritional values, sensorial properties and shelf life of the cake.
In conclusion, HFD-induced hypertension is not driven by increased sympathetic neurotransmission to MA in male and female Dahl ss rats. PMID: 31731103 [PubMed - in process]
CONCLUSION: Starting to drink alcohol in the early teen years predicted current alcohol use, current binge drinking and mixing of alcohol with energy drinks when students were in Grade 12. Findings indicate a need for development of novel alcohol prevention efforts. PMID: 31729312 [PubMed - in process]
In conclusion, dietary nitrate may have therapeutic utility against obesity and associated metabolic complications possibly by increasing adipocyte mitochondrial respiration and by dampening inflammation and oxidative stress.Graphical abstract

However, how glycogen depletion is manipulated during exercise is not very clear. Our aim here is to assess the impact of interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) on skeletal muscle glycogen and subsequent regulation ofexercise capacity. Skeletal muscle-specific IRF4 knockout mice show normal body weight and insulin sensitivity, but better exercise capacity...
Authors: Miller DP, Lamont RJ Abstract The supra- and subgingival plaque biofilm communities of plaque are composed of hundreds of different microbes. These communities are spatially and temporally structured, largely due to cell-cell communications that coordinate synergistic interactions, and intracellular signaling systems to sense changes in the surrounding environment. Homeostasis is maintained through metabolic communication, mutualistic cross-feeding, and cross-respiration. These nutritional symbioses can reciprocally influence the local microenvironments by altering the pH and by detoxifying oxidative compo...
Conclusions: Marked effects of selection on gene expression were detected. The NOT line was characterized by the increased expression of hub nodes associated with mitochondrial function. Genes overexpressed in the SOT aligned with previous findings e.g. Colville et al. (2017) that high ethanol preference and consumption is associated with effects on cell adhesion and glutamate synaptic plasticity.

Dietary n-3 LC-PUFAs were supplemented by 1) fish oil (FO), 2) Schyzochytrium limacinum biomass (AA). Further, the fish from all treatments were mixed and redistributed in sea cages reared to slaughter (ca. 3kg body weight) on either FO or AA. Transcriptomics analyses in liver and intestinal tissues revealed significant dietary effects o...
