Cell aging in lung epithelial cells

(Helmholtz Zentrum M ü nchen - German Research Center for Environmental Health) Pulmonary fibrosis can possibly be attributed to a kind of cellular aging process, which is called senescence. This has been shown by researchers from the Helmholtz Zentrum M ü nchen, partner in the German Center for Lung Research. As they report in the European Respiratory Journal, they have already successfully counteracted this mechanism in the cell culture with the help of drugs.

Brachyonychia is a rare manifestation in patients with chronic kidney disease. Longtime disease, secondary hyperparathyroidism, and hemodialysis are common conditions among those who present it. We evaluated 8 cases who presented brachyonychia in the nephrology department and compared the clinical versus the radiographic findings, and evaluated how the tissue adjusts to the underlying bone structure, giving different forms to the nails. We conclude that brachyonychia and acroosteolysis in chronic kidney disease suggest long-term disease, secondary hyperparathyroidism, and hemodialysis, besides it being a good model on how ...

Conclusion High rates of favorable angiographic and clinical outcomes were found among AIS patients receiving ET in our single-center experience, particularly among transferred in patients. The establishment of a stroke network may help in the efficient transfer and assembly of appropriate resources for eligible patients that are transferred in for ET. Conclusions Our single-center retrospective experience is one of the larger studies to date assessing the LVIS device. Compared with many laser-cut stent studies, the LVIS device had a higher aneurysm complete occlusion rate at follow-up coupled with low complication rates. However, this study was our initial experience with LVIS, larger patient numbers, and longer follow-up will be needed to fully assess the long-term efficacy of LVIS in treating intracranial aneurysms. Discussion These results indicated that embelin can effectively suppress CUS-induced depressive-like behaviors through increasing BDNF expression, preventing brain from oxidative stress and neuronal inflammation, and normalizing the HPA activity. PMID: 29681219 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Yang H, Rajah G, Guo A, Wang Y, Wang Q Abstract Stroke is an important cause of seizures and epilepsy in adults, particularly among the elderly. The incidence of stroke increases yearly as life expectancy increases and the number of patients with post-stroke seizures and epilepsy is also rising. Post-stroke epilepsy accounts for nearly 50% of newly diagnosed epilepsy among patients over 60 years of age. With increasing stroke awareness and advanced treatments, increased attention is paid to post-stroke seizures and epilepsy including its diagnosis and treatment. There has been a plethora of research o...
