Abstract IntroductionThere is an ongoing debate on the optimal time of labor induction to reduce the risks associated with prolonged pregnancy Material and methodsRegistry‐based study of 212,716 term, singleton cephalic deliveries between 2006 and 2012 in Finland comparing the outcomes of labor induction to those of expectant management in five three‐day gestational age periods between 40 and 42 weeks (Group 1:40+0‐40+2; 2:40+3‐40+5;3: 40+6‐41+1;4: 41+2‐41+4;5: 41+5‐42+0). Using Poisson regression, induced deliveries in each of the gestational age periods were compared to all ongoing pregnancies. Propensity s...

ConclusionThis study confirms the complexity of defining ethnicity in contemporary multicultural settings. Self‐reported ethnicity is often inaccurate, concepts of ethnicity vary by ethnic group, and country of birth is a poor descriptive surrogate. Adjustment for maternal ethnicity should be undertaken with caution in the customised assessment of fetal growth. Tweetable abstractIs self‐reported maternal ethnicity reliable? We think not.

Authors: Uygur B, Pusuroglu H, Yildirim A Abstract Mitral stenosis is the most common valvular pathology complicating pregnancy. Herein are reported the details of a 26-week pregnant patient with severe mitral stenosis and NYHA class 3-4 symptoms. Percutaneous mitral balloon valvuloplasty was performed under guidance of three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography and right atrial mapping, without using fluoroscopy. Video 1: Two-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography. The four-chamber view shows limited opening of the rheumatic mitral valve. Video 2: Two-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography whil...

Abstract To evaluate influenza disease burden among pregnant women, an epidemiological study using the self-control method was conducted. Study subjects were 12,838 pregnant women who visited collaborating maternity hospitals and clinics in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, before the 2013/14 influenza season. As a study outcome, hospitalization due to respiratory illnesses between the 2010/11 and 2013/14 seasons was collected from each study subject through a baseline survey at the time of recruitment and a second survey after the 2013/14 season. The hospitalization rates during pregnancy and non-pregnancy periods was cal...

Authors: Domokos D, Ducza E, Falkay G, Gaspar R Abstract Activation of RhoA and Rho-associated kinases (ROCKs) is known to play a pivotal role in the regulation of smooth muscle contraction via phosphorylation of myosin-light chain and myosin phosphatase. There are few data on the RhoA and ROCKs expression levels in rat uteri. Therefore, our aim was to investigate the mRNA and protein concentration of RhoA and ROCKs in rat uterus during pregnancy, during parturition and post-partum using real time PCR and Western blot analysis. The other purpose was to evaluate the effects of the ROCK (Y-27632, fasudil and RKI 1441...
