[Correspondence] Hydration and contrast-induced kidney injury

Estelle Nijssen and colleagues1 are to be commended for doing a randomised controlled trial to test the clinical use of hydration in patients undergoing intravascular contrast media exposure. As Nijssen and colleagues have highlighted, this practice is endorsed by guidelines, although based on consensus, and has important patient and practice implications. However, it might be premature to advocate for withholding prophylaxis for all high-risk patients with estimated glomerular filtration rates higher than 29 mL/min per 1 ยท73 m2.
