Adolescence: A Time of Transition

FORTY-TWO MILLION ADOLESCENTS live in the United States.1 Adolescence begins at the onset of puberty and can span an age range of several years. On the other hand, the legal age of majority (or adulthood) varies among states and countries. Because of these varying ages, it is difficult to pinpoint an exact age range when adolescence begins and ends. Whether your practice is primarily pediatric or primarily adult care, perianesthesia nurses will more than likely care for an adolescent patient at some point.
