Authors: Han LC, Wang H, Niu FL, Yan JY, Cai HF Abstract OBJECTIVE: Studies showed that microRNAs (miRs) play an important role in the development of breast cancer. It has been shown that there were significant differences between the expression levels of serum miR-214-3p in breast cancer patients and healthy controls. Since survivin is involved in cell cycle and apoptosis, this study aims to investigate the effect of miR-214-3p on the proliferation and apoptosis of breast cancer cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Dual-Luciferase reporter system was used to validate the cell cycle-related target gene survivin. miRan...

CONCLUSIONS: LINC00511 inhibition impairs its competitive binding to miR-185, resulting in increased STXBP4 expression and improved radiation response in breast cancer. Our study results suggest that the LINC00511/miR-185/STXBP4 axis may be a promising therapeutic target for improving the prognosis of breast cancer. PMID: 31539133 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSIONS: Knockdown of LINC01096 inhibited cell viability, migration, and invasion; however, it promoted apoptosis in TNBC by up-regulating miR-3130-3p, indicating a novel target for the treatment of TNBC. PMID: 31539132 [PubMed - in process]

In this study, hyaluronic acid (HA)-mediated tumor targeting and pH-sensitive amphiphilic polymeric nanoparticles were designed and prepared to co-deliver the anticancer drug embelin (EMB) and tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) plasmid (pTRAIL) (EMB/TRAIL-HA/PBAE-PEI) for synergistic anti-breast cancer efficacy. These pH-sensitive amphiphilic polymeric nanoparticles were formed using the amphiphilic polymers polyethyleneimine (PEI)-poly[(1,6-hexanediol)-diacrylate-β-5-hydroxyamylamine] (PBAE), which was synthesized via Michael addition polymerization. Taking advantage of the specific bindi...

In this study, we highlighted mechanisms underlying the regulation of breast cancer molecular signatures by TFs and miRNAs which their alteration reduce the chance of survival rate in each subtype of breast cancer. Our current study in a holistic insight revealed the importance of some genes and their regulators as potential prognostic markers and/or therapeutic targets in breast cancer patients.

This article outlines the most commonly used breast cancer prognostic tests, including the individual assay's purpose, its genomic makeup, the targeted patient population, and its prognostic and predictive abilities. Key nursing implications are discussed, highlighting how nurses can best apply knowledge of breast cancer prognostic tests to nursing practice. PMID: 31538973 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract BACKGROUND: Taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy (TIPN) is caused by the neurotoxicity of paclitaxel and docetaxel, but the differences between paclitaxel- and docetaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy are understudied. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to compare TIPN between docetaxel and paclitaxel in patients with breast cancer and to examine the consistency of measuring TIPN between researchers and patients. METHODS: Secondary data were analyzed from a cross-sectional study that included 64 patients with breast cancer from two teaching hospitals in Taiwan. Objective and subjective TIPN...

This study evaluated decision-making participation regarding surgery among women with early-stage breast cancer. METHODS: This cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational study included 328 Iranian women with early-stage breast cancer. A convenience sample completed a demographic questionnaire, the Control Preferences Scale, the nine-item Shared Decision Making Questionnaire, and the Decisional Conflict Scale. FINDINGS: Most participants preferred to maintain passive roles. High decisional conflict was associated with uncertainty about surgical treatment options, whereas lower decisional conflict was related to va...

Abstract Patients with cancer should report symptoms related to treatment, but many patients not actively being treated for disease present to oncology clinics for care that could be managed in other settings. These nonessential visits may lead to lessened appointment availability for patients with essential issues related to disease and treatment. In an outpatient breast cancer clinic, a quality improvement initiative was implemented to decrease the number of nonessential patient encounters and to increase the number of essential encounters. This intervention involved creating and implementing a triage protocol u...
