Fortimedix touts results in symphonX single-port system feasibility study

Fortimedix Surgical today touted a feasibility study of its symphonX surgical platform designed for transanal colon resections, touting reduced operative trauma with the device. The Netherlands-based company touts its symphonX system as the only single-port surgery device compatible with standard 15mm laparoscopic trocar. Data from the studies were presented at the 25th  International Congress of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery last month. Results from the studies, performed over the last 2 years by Dr. Karl-Hermann Fuchs, indicated that the device could reduce abdominal trocars and operative trauma during transanal colon resections. In addition, the company said that a “pure TaCR using a modified version of the symphonX” seems feasible, according to a press release.. “When performing transanal colon resection, it is important to have the right tools that provide sufficient range of motion to reach target anatomies with ease and achieve excellent triangulation for optimal tissue manipulation, retraction and exposure. These cadaver studies show that the symphonX based platform enables transanal colon resection with the aid of only a single 5mm transabdominal trocar for visualization. This is an important result that could have positive effects on patient outcomes in terms of post-operative pain, wound complications and hernia development following surgery. We are optimistic that further studies will confirm this finding. The next step will b...
