In this study, an articular cavity microdialysis sampling system for adjuvant arthritic (AA) rats was established to study the effect of GE on the release of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in AA rats induced by Freund’s complete adjuvant (FCA). An UHPLC-MS/MS method was developed to determine the concentrations of GE and PGE2 in the dialysate. Through the determination of drug concentrations and PGE2 efficacy levels in the dialysate, the developed methods were successfully applied to set up concentration–time and effect–time profiles followed by PK–PD modeling of GE’s effect on decreasing PGE2 releas...

This study identified the factors that have an impact on RA drug treatment expenditure. Also, we showed that methods that enable extracting demographic and expenditure data of administrative information systems may represent important tools in the construction of economic studies to subsidize economic health evaluations, especially from the standpoint of the managers.

Ichor Therapeutics is the most mature of the US-based companies that have emerged from the SENS rejuvenation research community in recent years. You might recall a number of interviews back in the Fight Aging! Archives with founder and CEO Kelsey Moody. He has his own take on how our community should proceed from laboratory to clinic: he is very much in favor of demonstrating (a) that the formal regulatory path offered by the FDA can work for the treatment of aging, and (b) that - given the right strategic approach - rejuvenation therapies can attract the attention, collaboration, and backing of Big Pharma entities in the ...

AbstractThe goals of this study were to determine if secretory sphingomyelinase (S-SMase) activity is elevated in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) compared to control subjects and to examine the relationships of S-SMase activity with functional status, quality of life, and RA disease activity measurements. We collected data on 33 patients who were diagnosed with RA and 17 non-RA controls who were comparable in terms of age, sex, and race. Demographic, clinical data and self-reported measures of fatigue, pain, and physical function were obtained directly from patients and controls. RA patients also completed quantita...

AbstractThe study aims to analyse the clinical and immunological manifestations of paediatric antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) in patients, based on the 2006 revised classification criteria of definite APS. Fifty-eight paediatric patients with APS were enrolled and analysed retrospectively. A total of 37 female and 21 male patients with a mean age of 14  ± 3 years at disease onset were included. Fourteen (24%) cases were primary APS, and 40 (69%) cases were secondary to systemic lupus erythaematosus (SLE). Anti-nuclear antibody (ANA) positivity and hypocomplementemia were more common in secondary APS t...

AbstractAssessment of intracranial vessels includes transcranial Doppler (TCD). TCD performance requires intact temporal acoustic windows (TAW). Failure of TAW (TAWF) is present in 8 –20% of people. There have been no reports on TAWF in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Altogether, 62 female RA patients were included. Among them, 20 were MTX-treated and biologic-free, 20 received infliximab, and 22 tocilizumab. The controls included 60 non-RA women. TAWF, temporal bone thickness, and texture were determined by ultrasound and CT. BMD and T-scores of multiple bones were determined by DEXA. Several bone biomarkers were assesse...
