Antibiotic-resistant gonorrhoea on the rise, new drugs needed

The World Health Organisation has issued a press release warning that antibiotic resistance is making gonorrhoea harder, and sometimes impossible, to treat. WHO reports widespread resistance to older and cheaper antibiotics, however, the development of new antibiotics is not very attractive for commercial pharmaceutical companies. The press release is based on two papers published to coincide with the STI and HIV World Congress
