Hydroxyapatite bone cement application for the reconstruction of retrosigmoid craniectomy in the treatment of cranial nerves disorders.

CONCLUSIONS: The application of HBC in the reconstruction of RSC for the treatment of cranial nerves disorders is an effective method, yielding good cosmetic results whilst eliminating CSF leak. Additionally, it is safe due to the lack of deep-seated wound infections with low incidence of chronic incisional pain. PMID: 28680734 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Kasemy ZA, Kamel GM, Abdel-Rasoul GM, Ismail AA Abstract Objectives: To study environmental exposure to benzene as well as hematological effects of benzene exposure in taxi drivers. Background: Exposure to benzene has been associated with adverse health effects, including haematopoietic disorders. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was carried out from the beginning of April 2017, through the end of June 2018, on 280 taxi drivers (the exposed group) and 120 unexposed matched individuals (controls). The tools included a predesigned self-administered questionnaire which contained questions about p...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewPost-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and chronic pain often co-occur. Understanding the shared mechanisms, signs to identify PTSD, and treatment options is integral in allowing providers to better serve their patients.Recent FindingsIndividuals with comorbid PTSD and chronic pain report greater PTSD symptoms, pain, anxiety, depression, disability, and opioid use than those with only one of these conditions. There are several empirically supported therapies for chronic pain, and for PTSD, as well as pilot data for a treatment of comorbid pain and PTSD.SummaryThe purpose of this paper is to review a...

Conclusions: Quality of life increases significantly after surgery with a reduction of pain and swelling and decreased tendency to easy bruising. The high prevalence of hypothyroidism in lipedema patients could be related to the frequently observed lipedema-associated obesity. The low prevalence of diabetes, dyslipidemia, and hypertension appears to be a specific characteristic distinguishing lipedema from lifestyle-induced obesity.

CONCLUSIONS: Even between attacks CH can have a huge and potentially irreversible impact on life. Different types of IIB were identified, all of which may contribute to the total burden of disease. As cumulative burden might be irreversible, prevention strategies need to be developed. PMID: 31762031 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSIONS: ARMR is a source of real-world patient data, biospecimens, and brain neuroimaging data that provides comprehensive insight into patients with migraine and other headache types being seen in headache specialty clinics in the United States. ARMR data will allow for longitudinal and advanced analytics that are expected to lead to a better characterization of patient heterogeneity, healthcare resource utilization, identification of endophenotypes, factors that predict treatment outcomes and clinical course, and ultimately advance the field toward precision headache medicine. DISCUSSION: The primary goal of BoNTA in the treatment of CM is to mitigate the development of central sensitization. Since the 12-week injection paradigm may not provide sustained antinociceptive effect in all patients, it may account for the failure of response to BoNTA. Repeated occurrences of the WOE can potentially lead to medication overuse and impact quality of life. PMID: 31758548 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Çimen Atalar A, Yalın OÖ Abstract OBJECTIVES: Chronic migraine (CM) is a frequent complication of migraines that has a serious impact on personal and social life and is still underdiagnosed. The aim of this study was to determine risk factors for the progression to CM and to investigate the relationship of these factors to the disease prognosis. METHODS: In all, 115 CM and 377 episodic migraine patients from between February 2015 and December 2017 were enrolled. The age of disease onset, headache duration and frequency, presence of aura and type of aura, clinical properties and location of...

Introduction: Patients on chronic noninvasive ventilation must adapt to NIV. Little is known how side effects and associated symptoms influence adherence to NIV.Methods: Consecutive patients at outpatient NIV clinic were included, with underlying diseases: obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS), kyphoscoliosis (KS) and COPD. Side effects and associated symptoms on NIV were recorded systematically with a questionnaire. Results: 231 patients (47% OHS, 9% KS, 44% COPD) were included, 66% men, age 64 ± 12 years. Of these, 85% were adherent to NIV, with no difference between disease groups. Patients reported nocturia (62%...
