(Natural News) A new study revealed that acupuncture may help people lose weight without undergoing dietary changes or exercise routines. As part of the study, a team of researchers at the Hong Kong Baptist University conducted acupuncture trials on 13 males and 59 females between the ages of 18 and 68 who were observed from September 2015 to...

Innovative Health Solutions won FDA clearance for a new indication for its NSS-2 Bridge device, now cleared to reduce symptoms of opioid withdrawal, according to an FDA release. The NSS-2 Bridge device is a small electrical nerve stimulator designed to be placed behind a patient’s ear and emit electrical pulses to stimulate branches of certain cranial nerves, which may provide relief from opioid withdrawal symptoms. Clearance came based of a single-arm clinical study of 73 patients undergoing opioid physical withdrawal symptoms, with researchers evaluating clinical opiate withdrawal scale scores. Prior to using the d...

The FDA has given a regulatory green light to the first device that reduces opioid withdrawal symptoms. The NSS-2 Bridge from Innovative Health Solutions, a Versailles, Indiana firm, is stuck to the skin behind the ear and relies on four electrodes that are attached around the ear. The electrodes are used to deliver electric current to a set of occipital and cranial nerves (V, VII, IX, and X), hopefully helping addicts to avoid agitation, insomnia, and other symptoms of kicking opioids. The same device was approved by the FDA three years ago for use in acupuncture and the current approval went under the de novo review...

Abstract Determination of specific target compounds in agriculture food and natural plant products is essential for many purposes; however, it is often challenging due to the complexity of the sample matrices. Herein we present a new approach called plasmonic affinity sandwich assay for the facile and rapid probing of glucose and fructose in plant tissues. The approach mainly relies on molecularly imprinted plasmonic extraction microprobes, which were prepared on gold-coated acupuncture needles via boronate affinity controllable oriented surface imprinting with the target monosaccharide as the template molecules. ...

CONCLUSIONS: There is no evidence for the efficacy or safety of methods for reducing prescribed opioid use in chronic pain. There is a small number of randomised controlled trials investigating opioid reduction, which means our conclusions are limited regarding the benefit of psychological, pharmacological, or other types of interventions for people with chronic pain trying to reduce their opioid consumption. The findings to date are mixed: there were reductions in opioid consumption after intervention, and often in control groups too. PMID: 29130474 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
