Confocal laser endomicroscopy in ulcerative colitis: beyond endoscopic assessment of disease activity

Fused crypts appeared to be a CLE marker of UC, while other abnormalities, like microvascular alteration and fluorescein leakage, have also been identified in patients with mucosal healing at endoscopy. Larger series are required to validate these results and the advantages of a CLE-based assessment of UC activity.
