AbstractGambling is a popular activity among older adults. Despite this increase in popularity little research has examined gambling among this group. This is especially true for minority older adults, like Francophones in Ontario. The purpose of this study was to better understand gambling in a sample of older Francophones from North-Eastern Ontario, the first study to do so. A sample of 181 older (over 55  years) Francophones from Northeastern Ontario (M age = 68.7, SD 7.6) was recruited. This sample was compared to a sample of older adults with English as their native language that had been previously...

Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibria measurements, for ethanol–water mixtures with 2-hydroxyethylamonium formate and 2-hydroxyethylamonium butyrate, at initial concentrations of 5%, 10% and 15% mass fraction, have been carried out at 101.3...

ConclusionsNatalizumab is highly effective as measured by the NEDA long-term remission parameter.

AbstractAerophagia is a functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by excessive swallowing of air associated with abdominal distension and pain, flatulence, belching, nausea, and vomiting. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an antecedent-based behavioral intervention on aerophagia with an adolescent female diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), severe intellectual disability, and herpes simplex virus infection of the central nervous system with chronic static encephalopathy. Results from a functional analysis and multiple-component aerophagia assessment suggested that aerop...

AbstractPerinatal depression is the most common complication of pregnancy and affects the mother, fetus, and infant. Recent preclinical studies and a limited number of clinical studies have suggested an influence of the gut microbiome on the onset and course of mental health disorders. In this review, we examine the current state of knowledge regarding genetics, epigenetics, heritability, and neuro-immuno-endocrine systems biology in perinatal mood disorders, with a particular focus on the interaction between these factors and the gut microbiome, which is mediated via the gut-brain axis. We also provide an overview of expe...

Authors: Hicks SM, Coupland LA, Jahangiri A, Choi PY, Gardiner EE Abstract Diagnosis of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and prediction of response to therapy remain significant and constant challenges in hematology. In patients who present with ITP, the platelet count is frequently used as a surrogate marker for disease severity, and so often determines the need for therapy. Although there is a clear link between thrombocytopenia and hemostasis, a direct correlation between the extent of thrombocytopenia and bleeding symptoms, especially at lower platelet counts is lacking. Thus, bleeding in ITP is heterogeneous, unp...

In this study, the Cyprinus carpio intoxication model was used to compare the differences in intoxication effect of alcoholic beverages and to assess the impacts of huangjiu components on intoxication for the first time. Exposure to huangjiu led to the most rapid physical imbalance of C. carpio, followed by red wine and Western liquor. Higher alcohols, biogenic amines and aldehydes could cause physical imbalance of fish by themselves, and synergistic effects were observed when combined with ethanol. 2-Phenylethanoland and isopentanol had the greatest positive effect on huangjiu intoxication, followed by histamine and phene...
