This study is the first to show that downregulation of PAPP-A expression in adult mice can significantly extend life span. Importantly, this beneficial longevity phenotype is distinct from the dwarfism of long-lived PAPP-A KO, Ames dwarf, Snell dwarf and growth hormone receptor (GHR) KO mice with germ-line mutations. Thus, downregulation of PAPP-A expression joins other treatment regimens, such as resveratrol, rapamycin and dietary restriction, which can extend life span when started in mice as adults. In a recent study, inducible knockdown of the GHR in young adult female mice increased maximal, but not median, life span. Tissue-specific PAPP-A KO models would provide insight into the tissues and organs that contribute to extended life span and healthspan. Measurable Amyloid Buildup Occurs Significantly Before Alzheimer's Disease https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2017/06/measurable-amyloid-buildup-occurs-significantly-before-alzheimers-disease/ Named and formally recognized age-related diseases are the late stages of processes of damage that start much earlier in life. So it is never a surprise to see that specific forms of damage strongly associated with any one specific age-related disease can be detected in smaller amounts earlier in old age, and that the people with more of that damage have a higher risk of later exhibiting the disease state. In the case of the research materials noted here, the disease is Alzheimer's, and the damage is accum...

Authors: Consalvo V, D'Auria F, Salsano V Abstract BACKGROUND: Chronic pain still occurs in 10-12% of patients who undergo surgical groin hernia repair. Considering the high prevalence of this pathology, we performed a single-center prospective study comparing the laparoscopic trans-abdominal pre-peritoneal (TAPP) approach to the standard surgical open technique for primary uncomplicated hernia repair. METHODS: A prospective cohort of 278 patients was extracted from our dataset: 121 received a laparoscopic TAPP approach, and 157 were treated by the Lichtenstein technique in case of inguinal hernia or by the dep...

AbstractA new type of photoionization ion source was developed for the ionization of cold molecules in supersonic molecular beams (named Cold PI). The system was based on a GC ‐MS with supersonic molecular beams and its fly‐through EI of cold molecules ion source (Cold EI) plus quadrupole mass analyzer. A continuously operated deuterium VUV photoionization lamp was added and placed above and between the supersonic nozzle and skimmer while the Cold EI ion source served only as a portion of the ion transfer ion optics. The supersonic nozzle and skimmer were voltage biased and the VUV light crossed the supersonic expansio...
