New National Academy of Sciences Members Minisymposium

New National Academy of Sciences Members Minisymposium A mini-symposium featuring NIH's three newest investigators elected to the National Academy of Sciences: Carolina Barillas-Mury (NIAID), Marius Clore (NIDDK), and Shiv Grewal (NCI). Each will speak about their latest research. Barillas-Mury is chief of the Mosquito Immunity and Vector Competence Section in the NIAID Laboratory of Malaria and Vector Research. She investigates the interactions between the mosquito immune system and Plasmodium parasites to understand how they affect malaria transmission. Clore is an NIH Distinguished Investigator in the NIDDK Laboratory of Chemical Physics. His lab is developing novel NMR methods to detect, visualize, and characterize transient, sparsely populated states of macromolecules, as seen in diseases such as AIDS. Grewal heads the Chromosome Biology Section in the NCI CCR Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His research focuses on the epigenetic control of higher-order chromatin assembly. With several NIH scientists elected to the NAS and IOM each year (see http://irp.nih.gov/about-us/honors), we hope to make this mini-symposium an annual tradition. Please come to congratulate your colleagues and hear some fascinating science. Air date: 6/16/2014 10:30:00 AM
