Siemens Healthineers launches Symbia Intevo Bold SPECT/CT scanner

Siemens (NYSE:SI) Healthineers said this week it is launching its Symbia Intevo Bold CT and single-photon emission computed tomography system. The company touted the device as addressing the growing use of SPECT/CT systems in a dual-use setting, and said that such devices can increase efficiency for SPECT patients who also require diagnostic CT scans through acquiring both sets of images through the same system. The newly launched Symbia Intevo Bold uses a proprietary Safire algorithm to deliver improved CT image quality while reducing patient radiation doses by as much as 60%. The system also features the iMAR algorithm to reduce metal-related artifacts caused by metallic materials, including orthopedic and dental implants. The Symbia Intevo Bold comes with optional interleaved volume reconstruction features which reconstructs overlapping CT imagines up to 32 slices to extract maximum diagnostic information from the data for the evaluation of small structures including lesions and fractures, the company said. “Symbia Intevo Bold advances the dual-use capabilities of SPECT/CT, enabling exceptional image quality in both forms of imaging at the lowest possible patient dose,” molecular imaging head Jim Williams said in a press release. Earlier this month, Siemens Healthineers said that it closed its acquisition of workflow management provider Medicalis for an undisclosed amount.
