Highlights from Day Two of the June 2017 PWW abc360 Conference

The June 2017 PWW abc360 conference concluded on Thursday June 8 in Clearwater Beach, Florida.  abc360 provides a broad focus on the ambulance revenue cycle.  This event is designed for those involved in agency billing and compliance and provides a wide variety of sessions that cover revenue cycle, compliance and practical coding skills.  One word that continued to come up throughout the day:  documentation.  Thursday morning was dedicated to documentation – its importance, how it can be done well and the implications of poorly-documented calls.  Stephen Wirth began the morning session by taking a high-level view of documentation issues and sharing with the group six strategies for improving crew documentation.  Steve shared with the group that documentation is often the source of the biggest compliance problems agencies face.  In reviewing the six strategies, Steve noted that a very small percentage of EMT and Paramedic training is devoted to patient care documentation and urged agencies to develop and deliver their own robust, ongoing documentation training programs.
