Transfusion medicine across the species

I WOULD like to respectfully draw attention to the inaccuracies in Wendy Barnett's recent review of the publication, Manual of Veterinary Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking (VR, May 20, 2017, vol 180, p 502). Commercial equine plasma was first produced on this site in July 1992 and was made available to equine veterinary surgeons in the UK for the foaling season in 1993 and every year thereafter in increasing quantities. Since 2003 it has been supplied as a licensed immunological veterinary medicinal product in the UK and since 2008 in the Republic of Ireland, and under the prescribing cascade elsewhere. I would not agree therefore that the UK has only had blood products for the past 10 years and that transfusion medicine is in its infancy in the UK.
