Incremental value of 99mTc-HIDA SPECT/CT scintigraphy in detection of bile leak in post hepatic transplantation in correlation with radiological investigations and surgical interventions

Conclusion: Tc99m-HIDA SPECT /CT scintigraphy had high specificity and NPV in detecting bile leak in post LT patients in comparison with other imaging modalities like USG and 320 slice CECT . Post LT patients with persistently or progressively elevated bilirubin may be subjected to HIDA scintigraphy as it guides for early and appropriate surgical intervention which serves for better clinical outcome and prognosis of patient. As it has high NPV it is included as routine protocol for post live donor LT patients on 4th post operative day. It also aids in predicting the impairment of graft function in advance.
