We describe here that pre-exposure with a live virus generated via a A/WSN/1933(H1N1) reverse genetics system resulted in a significant reduction of viral shedding from pigs exposed to either a swine H1N1 virus or a swine H3N2 virus. At 3-day post challenge (DPC), approximately 1 log and 1.5 logs reductions of viral shedding were observed in the swine H1N1- and H3N2-challenged vaccinated pigs when compared to unvaccinated animals. A further decline in viral load was observed at 5 DPC where viral shedding was decreased by greater than 3 logs in vaccinated pigs receiving either the H1N1 or H3N2 virus challenge. Although the ...

Publication date: March 2019Source: Fish &Shellfish Immunology, Volume 86Author(s): Simon Menanteau-Ledouble, Frouke van Sorgen, Rui Alexandre Gonçalves, Mansour El-MatbouliAbstractImmunostimulatory feed supplements are an increasingly common feature of aquaculture management and their benefit has been confirmed for a wide area of products. However, these investigations have often focused on the benefit of these supplements on the innate immune system. In the current project, we investigated a mixture of two commercial feed supplements (Biotronic® Top 3 and Levabon® Aquagrow E) with a known protective ef...

The objectives of this study were to identify the major adhesin in Omps that plays the essential role in adhesion of V. harveyi to the host cells, and to assess the potential of this adhesin as a vaccine candidate for V. harveyi infection. We observed that pathogenic V. harveyi adhered to the surface of grouper embryonic cells (GEM cells) and induced apoptosis of them. Native Omps were extracted from nine different V. harveyi strains, and five common Omp bands were isolated by SDS-PAGE analysis. Western blot analysis and an anti-native Omp antibodies blocking assay indicated that one strong and several weak immunoreactivit...

This article aims to evaluate a three-stage PEG-Salt aqueous two-phase extraction (ATPE) system to purify foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV). Unique separation efficiencies were obtained by selecting phase-forming salt and varying the molecular weight (MW) of PEG and the pH value by using neutral salt additives. Improving the purity of FMDV and removing the phase-forming polymer were performed by multi-stage ATPE system. Results revealed that the partition coefficient (K) of FMDV in single-stage ATPE did not linearly increase with the MW of PEG. The highest K value and recovery of FMDV were 98.9% and 107.69, respectively,...

CONCLUSIONS: PHDs on remote islands highly value the validity and deployment needs of PHDs, while PHDs in close proximity to private clinics or hospitals give a low score. This suggests that there is a need to more efficiently deploy PHDs depending on local characteristics and the presence or absence of nearby private medical clinics and hospitals. Less than a year after announcing a $9 million expansion at its Holly Springs facility, Seqirus is at it again – but this time with an expansion at the operation that tops $140 million.  Seqirus is breaking ground Friday morning on one of its largest corporate investments to-date. According to Chad Salisbury, the site lead for facility in Holly Springs, the expansion was precipitated by continually incre asing demand for its flu vaccines – particularly its prefilled product.  “This investment…
