However, the complexity of histopathological images and the dramatic increase in workload make this task time consuming, and the results may be subject to pathologist subjectivity. Therefore, the development of automatic and precise histopathological image analysis methods is essential for the field. In thi...

Publication date: Available online 15 June 2019Source: Journal of Molecular LiquidsAuthor(s): Prakash Bansode, Pradnya Patil, Prafulla Choudhari, Manish Bhatia, Apurva Birajdar, Indumathi Somasundaram, Gajanan RashinkarAbstractA novel series of ferrocene tethered ionic liquids (ILs) has been synthesized by quaternization of 1-N-(ferrocenylmethyl)benzimidazole, 1-N-(ferrocenylmethyl)imidazole and 1-N-(ferrocenylmethyl)-1,2,4-triazole with long chain alkyl bromides. The synthesized ILs were screened for their anticancer activity against human breast cancer cell line MCF-7. ILs 2a–d and 4b displayed significant anticanc...

Abstract Syngeneic mouse models enable us to study the interaction of the immune system with tumor cells during tumor development and metastasis. It further allows us to evaluate the efficacy of immunotherapies on the different stages of tumor growth and the metastatic process. Here we describe two syngeneic mouse models, a murine mammary carcinoma and a murine melanoma model, that are used to study metastasis. Metastases occur spontaneously in the murine mammary carcinoma. The presence and number of foci are evaluated by culturing the lung tissue in a colony formation assay. For the murine melanoma model, tumor c...

In this study, MCF-7 and T47D cells were treated with inhibitors of 17β-HSD1, 17β-HSD7, aromatase or steroid sulfatase (STS), then mRNA levels of 17β-HSD7, STS, 11β-HSD 2, estrogen receptors α (ERα) and androgen receptor (AR) were determined by Q-PCR. ER negative cell line MDA-MB-231 was used as a negative control. Our results demonstrate that 17β-HSD7, STS and 11β-HSD2 are all regulated by the same estrogen estradiol via ERα. When the gene of ERα (ESR1) was knocked down, there was no longer significant mutual regulation of these enzymes. Our results demonstrate that imp...

Abstract Trophinin-associated protein (TROAP) is a cytoplasmic protein required for microtubular cytoskeleton regulation and spindle assembly, and its expression plays a critical role in the initiation and progression of various types of cancer. However, little is known about the role of TROAP in breast cancer (BC). TROAP mRNA expression levels and clinical data from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets (GSE42568, 104 BC patients; GSE1456, 159 BC patients; and GSE21653, 266 BC patients) were analyzed by the R2: Genomics Analysis and Visualization Platform to estimate overall survival (OS). We also analyzed the g...

ConclusionTOL methodology allowed effective training of both groups of readers. The iterative nature of individual training ensured production of user-friendly materials including frequently-asked-questions sheets. It allowed for each person to feel that their views were fully listened to and incorporated into the training package, allowing for training materials with high face validity.

ConclusionWe confirm previous studies showing that the PTPN2 protein is lost in half of the breast cancer cases and gene deletion occurs in 15 –18% of the cases. Furthermore, the results suggest that the role of PTPN2 is subtype-related and should be further investigated to assess how this could affect breast cancer prognosis and treatment response.

The objective of this study is to validate the prediction tool on non-Dutch patients.Material and methodsData for this external validation derive from a large clinical cancer registry in southern Germany, covering a population of 1.1  million. Patients with curative resection of early-stage breast cancer, diagnosed between 2000 and 2012, were included in the analysis (n  = 6520). For each of them, an individual LRR-risk was estimated by the INFLUENCE-nomogram. Its predictive ability was tested by comparing estimated and observed LRR-probabilities using the Hosmer –Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test and ...

AbstractPurposeTo report the dosimetric feasibility of the radiation technique HALFMOON (Helical ALtered Fractionation for iMplant partial OmissiON) for post-mastectomy radiation therapy (PMRT) in intermediate –high-risk breast cancer patients with implant-based immediate breast reconstruction, where the clinical target volume (CTV) does not include the whole implant (implant-sparing approach).MethodsIn the HALFMOON technique, the CTV consisted of skin, subcutaneous tissues, and pectoralis major muscle, excluding the implant, chest wall muscles, and rib plane. The HALFMOON plans were compared with conventionally cont...
