Baxter inks R & D deal with Mayo Clinic, initial focus on kidney disease

Baxter (NYSE:BAX) said today that it inked a research & development collaborative deal with the Mayo Clinic to develop new technologies and therapies designed to improve patient therapeutic care. The pair will initially focus on kidney disease, with additional projects planned in other areas where breakthrough treatment options can be introduced and innovation can improve access to high-quality care. “We are excited about combining Mayo’s clinical and research expertise with Baxter’s ability to apply and scale innovation. We are confident that this collaboration will help accelerate discoveries, development and application of life-changing therapies for patients,” Florida Mayo Clinic CEO Dr. Gianrico Farrugia said in a prepared statement. The initial agreement will span 5-years, with a 5-year renewal option.
