A Letter from Jon R. Krohmer, Director NHTSA Office of EMS

Recognizing EMS Week: Always in Service        I am so lucky to have spent most of my career alongside EMS professionals who dedicate themselves to service to others. As an emergency physician, I helped treat people who were brought to the emergency department by EMTs and paramedics who worked long hours, received little recognition and often sacrificed greatly in order to serve their communities. As an EMS medical director and a federal official, I see that same commitment also in the service leaders, state officials and policymakers who help support EMS systems across the country.  The EMS profession is changing more rapidly than it has in decades. From technology to new care models, we are seeing innovations that will allow EMS caregivers to provide more effective, safe and efficient care than ever before. The NHTSA Office of EMS is proud to be supporting these efforts through projects like the National EMS Information System, the revision of the national scope of practice model and the development of EMS Agenda 2050.
