The Need for Practice Transformation in Children ’s Mental Health Care

With the movement toward population health and value-based payment since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, pediatric primary care practices have been preoccupied with the enterprise of practice transformation. Practice transformation involves using process improvement methodology to change the way that care is organized to achieve better clinical outcomes, improved experience of care, and decreased per-capita cost of care. The effort to integrate mental health into the primary care setting is an important aspect of practice transformation and has been supported by different Department of Health and Human Services demonstration project-funding mechanisms.
