In this study, we present deep learning-based approaches to automatic segmentation and applicator reconstruction with high accuracy and efficiency in the planning computed tomography (CT) for cervical cancer brachytherapy (BT). Vaginal cancer is a rare tumor that is optimally treated with a combination of chemotherapy (CHT) and radiation therapy. Because of the rarity of this cancer, the benefit of a brachytherapy boost (BT) and the relevance of radiotherapy time to treatment completion (TTC) are unclear.
The purpose of the study was to describe our approach towards safe delivery of single-fraction high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy (BT) boost in patients with prostate cancer in the setting of an unshielded operating room (OR).
To investigate fully balanced steady-state free precession (bSSFP) with optimized acquisition protocols for MRI-based post-implant quality assessment of low-dose-rate (LDR) prostate brachytherapy without an endorectal coil (ERC).
ConclusionBrachytherapy remains the standard of care for patients diagnosed with cervical cancer and indication for primary chemoradiation. In terms of local control, CyberKnife ®-based boost concepts provide excellent local control. It can be an alternative for patients who cannot receive adequate brachytherapy. Distant relapse still remains a challenge in this context.
Margin negative resection in pancreatic cancer remains the only curative option but is challenging, especially with the retroperitoneal margin. Intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) can improve rates of local control but requires specially designed facilities and equipment. This retrospective review describes initial results of a novel implantable mesh of uni-directional low dose rate (LDR) Pd-103 sources (sheet) used to deliver a focal margin-directed high-dose boost in patients with concern for close or positive margins.
In 2008, the GEC ESTRO Gyn network launched the first multiinstitutional, observational, and prospective international study on MRI-guided brachytherapy in locally advanced cervical cancer patients (EMBRACE-I). EMBRACE-I was followed by EMBRACE-II from 2016 and ongoing. Among the aims of the EMBRACE studies are to benchmark morbidity outcomes and develop dose-volume effects and predictive models for morbidity. The EMBRACE studies collect both physician (CTCAE v.3) and patient (EORTC QLQ-C30/CX24) reported outcomes, including baseline information, in a regular follow-up schedule.
CONCLUSIONS Pelvic RT-CT is superior to other treatments for PFS and local recurrence rate, and associated related toxicities are tolerable, suggesting it may be an ideal adjuvant therapy for HREC patients. PMID: 32950998 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Abstract OBJECTIVE: To analyze clinical characteristics and survival of patients with primary vaginal cancer. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of patients with primary squamous, adenocarcinoma and adenosquamous cell carcinoma of the vagina identified from the Mayo Clinic Cancer Registry between 1998 and 2018. RESULTS: A total of 124 patients were identified: stage I, 39 patients; stage II, 44, stage III, 20 and stage IV, 21. Patients with stage III and IV were older as compared to stage I and II.
