Carlisle County Takes Care of Its EMS

Bardwell, KY  – With the help of a Department of Homeland Security grant, the Carlisle County Ambulance Service added the world’s first Integrated Patient Transport and Loading System, the iNʃX, to their fleet. The iNʃX was developed by Ferno to eliminate lifting during patient transport. Ferno is the global leader in pre-hospital patient handling equipment. Focusing on safety for caregivers is one of their top priorities. Greg Terry, Carlisle County Judge Executive, invested in the iNʃX® to minimize risk and keep EMS professionals in Carlisle County safe. EMS is one of the most injurious occupations. A survey by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians revealed 47 percent of caregivers sustained back injuries while performing EMS duties. The iNʃX allows EMS professionals to navigate over obstacles, such as road barriers, and into an ambulance without lifting. The average worker’s compensation cost for a back injury is between $40,0000-$80,000; a statistic Judge Terry is conscious of. “We have been guarding against claims with Ferno by our side. Injury prevention and safe patient transport are our top priority,” Judge Terry said. Wayne Floyd, the Carlisle County Ambulance Service Director, says being manually lifted into an ambulance can be embarrassing for patients, who are often apologetic.
