Ageing kinetics and strength of airborne-particle abraded 3Y-TZP ceramics

Tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline ceramic, which is partially stabilized by yttria (3Y-TZP), is highly regarded for its combination of excellent mechanical properties and its enhanced aesthetic appearance compared to metals. It is a popular choice for all-ceramic dental restorations [1]. Its high strength and toughness are achieved through tetragonal-to-monoclinic (t –m) transformation. Under stress, parts of the metastable tetragonal grains transform martensitically to the stable monoclinic variants.
