Cook Medical sells vertebroplasty portfolio to IZI Medical

Cook Medical said today it sold its portfolio of vertebroplasty devices to IZI Medical Products for an undisclosed amount. Included in the sale are Cook Medical’s Duro-Ject Osteo-Site, Osteo-Force and Vertefix brands, as well as needles, injectors and cements, the Bloomington, Ind.-based company said. “In the US, there’s an estimated 700,000 vertebral fractures a year due to osteoporosis. We were not giving this product family the resources it needed to continue to advance, so we’re pleased to have found it a new home with IZI Medical. The sale of our vertebroplasty product family allows us to concentrate on our primary product lines while allowing IZI Medical to focus on helping to treat patients suffering from spinal fractures,” prez Pete Yonkman said in a press release. The line of products being sold to IZI Medical are used for treating vertebral compression fractures through minimally invasive procedures. The devices are produced at Cook Medical’s Bloomington, Ind.-based facility, and Cook said that the change would not impact the facility or its employees. Yesterday, Cook Medical said it launched the next-gen Acrobat 2 calibrated tip wire guide. The Acrobat 2 is designed to provide greater tip flexibility to aid in ductal navigation, the company said.
