We thank Dr. Burks for his comments and interest in our article regarding arthroscopic repair of acute anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears.1 ACL repair was abandoned because of unsatisfactory results in the past. Despite improvements in ACL reconstruction and rehabilitation, short-term and midterm ACL reconstruction failure rates range from 0% to more than 15%.1-3 However, recently, researchers and clinicians have made an effort to reintroduce different ACL repair strategies.4 Possible advantages of an ACL repair include preservation of the native ACL and proprioception and less morbidity, especially when autografts are used.
