Intraoperative photodynamic therapy for high-grade gliomas treatment: Light dosimetry considerations

High-grade gliomas are the most common malignant brain tumors in adults. Gliomas represent about 3% of premature cancer death (aged less than 65) and is the 3rd cause of death by cancer for young adults (aged between 15 and 34). Among them, Glioblastoma Multiform (GBM) is the most common tumor. Its incidence is estimated at 5 new cases each year for 100,000 inhabitants. Despite reference treatment, including surgery, radiation oncology and chemotherapy, GBM still remains with a very poor prognosis (median survival below 14.5 months).
