The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of age and sex on the severity of physical and psychological dependence in morphine-dependent rats. The young/aged male and female Wistar rats were chronically treated with bi-daily doses (10 mg/kg, at 12 h intervals) of morphine for 14 days. Then, rats were tested for the severity of physical dependence on morphine (...

Different from previous knowledge, the catalytic efficiency of the Fe-based amorphous ribbons doesn't decrease linearly with increased annealing temperature before glass transition. The catalytic ability of the FePC ribbons annealed at 553 and 593 K is worse than that of as-quenched ribbons, whil...

MacLatchyAbstractNumerous anthropogenic sources, such as pulp mill and sewage treatment effluents, contain androgenic endocrine disrupting compounds that alter the reproductive status of aquatic organisms. The current study injected adult male mummichog (Fundulus heteroclitus) with 0 (control), 1 pg/g, 1 ng/g or 1 μg/g body weight of the model androgen 5α-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) with the intent to induce a period of plasma sex hormone depression, a previou...

In this study, AT1-AAs were detected in the sera of patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and the positive rate was 44.44% vs. 17.46% in non-PAD volunteers. In addition, analysis showed that AT1-AAs level was positively correlated with PAD. To reveal the causal relationship between AT1-AAs and vascular aging, an AT1-AAs-positive rat model was established by active immunization. The carotid pulse wave velocity was higher, and the aortic endothelium-dependent vasodilatation was attenuated significantly in the immunized rats. Morphological staining showed thickening of the aortic wall. Histological examination showe...

This study therefore sought to investigate whether the autism/transgender overlap confers an increased risk of depression or anxiety. An online study of 727 individuals revealed a substantial overlap between transgender identity and autism, with increased autistic traits found in trans men compared to trans women. Depression and anxiety were highest in autistic-trans individuals, but no superadditive effect was observed. The implications of these findings are discussed in relation to the wider healthcare system.

Hi Everybody, This is a throwaway account because this topic is a little sensitive. I have an interview coming up and I have been going through the standard preparation for it. The only question that I have been hesitant on is why I wanted to become a doctor. My reason was that 8 years ago in the 8th grade, due to crappy things going on and not thinking clearly, I attempted suicide. It is something I regret ever having done, and I have moved on with a much more positive outlook on life... Help on Why I want to be a Doctor (Controversial)
