Editorial commentary: Sleep disordered breathing and cardiovascular outcomes: Is it time to change our thinking?

In this issue, Cowie summarizes the results of recent randomized controlled trials (RCT) on the effects of treatment of obstructive or central respiratory events during sleep on cardiovascular outcomes [1]. Unexpected results, such as those reported by recent studies, challenge our current way of thinking, and may help to better design future studies.
