Conclusions/SignificanceAlum-adjuvantedOv-103 andOv-RAL-2 vaccines have the potential of reducing infection and thus morbidity associated with onchocerciasis also in humans. ConclusionsOnchocerciasis-endemic sites would doubly benefit from ivermectin MDA interventions, as these will alleviate onchocerciasis-associated morbidity and mortality, while potentially curbing malaria transmission. Involving onchocerciasis programs and other relevant stakeholders in the malaria/ivermectin research agenda would foster the implementation of pluri-annual MDA in target communities.

CONCLUSION: Co-endemicity of loiasis and onchocerciasis is one of the key factors responsible for the occurrence of SAE following ivermectin treatment.
