Recent advances in the management of renal cell carcinoma-a radiation oncology perspective

AA Abdus-salam, AA Olabumuyi, MA JimohNigerian Journal of Clinical Practice 2017 20(4):399-408Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a rare cancer in developing countries like Nigeria. However, with an increasing understanding of its epidemiology, the increasing availability of trained personnel, improvement in diagnostic facilities, and greater awareness in the populace, an increase in its incidence as was witnessed in developed nations in the last few decades could be safely predicted. This narrative review highlights the international best practices in the multidisciplinary approach to the management of RCC, its diagnosis and treatment, with emphasis on recent advances and radiation treatment. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guideline (version 3.2015) served as a guide to select relevant articles through a PubMed and Google scholar query.
