Social prescribing: less rhetoric and more reality. A systematic review of the evidence

Conclusions Social prescribing is being widely advocated and implemented but current evidence fails to provide sufficient detail to judge either success or value for money. If social prescribing is to realise its potential, future evaluations must be comparative by design and consider when, by whom, for whom, how well and at what cost. Purpose Low-attenuation muscle (LAM) area at mid-thigh, a computed tomography (CT)–derived index of intramuscular lipids, is associated with insulin resistance, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. The present study aimed at testing the hypothesis that changes in LAM area in trunk muscles from a single abdominal scan could provide relevant information to evaluate the effects of a lifestyle intervention without the use of a mid-thigh CT scan. Methods Cardiometabolic risk variables, including waist circumference, lipoprotein–lipid profile, glucose tolerance, and cardiorespiratory fitness, were assessed in a sample ...

CONCLUSION: Within the limitations of this study it was concluded that Biodentine® alone showed better results than Biodentine® in combination with diode laser for dentinal tubule occlusion. However, when laser was used over Biodentine® in contact mode, the results showed Biodentine® to have a melted appearance, rather than the irregular fibrillar structures usually seen. This in vitro study was performed on extracted teeth which do not mimic the natural biological environment. Therefore, in vivo studies should be carried out to assess the potency of Biodentine® in occluding and sealing dentinal tubules...

On Episode 94 of Health in 2 Point 00, Jess asks me about’s $60 million raise for at-home urine testing for kidney diseases, with the NHS on the hook &coming to the US, and Smile Direct Club going public with a $9 billion valuation—but quickly tanked (although to $7 billion). In other news, there’s a period tracker scandal with Maya and MIA Fem apps sharing sensitive data about women’s cycles and sexual activity with Facebook. Find out what Jess &I are looking forward to at Health 2.0 this week as well. See you there! —Matthew Holt

Publication date: Available online 15 September 2019Source: Reactive and Functional PolymersAuthor(s): Muhammad Sohail, Binish Ashfaq, Iqra Azeem, Amir Faisal, Sema Yiyit Do─čan, Jianjun Wang, Hatice Duran, Basit YameenAbstractA convenient UV-curable coatings assisted surface functionalization strategy is presented to convert commodity Poly(propylene) (PP) films into diverse functional materials. To ensure a covalent integration between PP surface and functional UV-curable coatings, 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl acrylate (TMSPA) was functionalized on the surface of oxidized PP film. Two distinct UV-curable coatings differing ...

Publication date: 25 November 2019Source: Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry, Volume 79Author(s): Su-Un Lee, You-Jin Lee, Jeong-Rang Kim, Kwang-Eun Jeong, Soon-Yong JeongAbstractSilicoaluminophsophate (SAPO)-34 is considered as a promising catalyst for methanol-to-olefin (MTO) reaction, because its cylinder-like cages with small 8-ring pore openings restrict the diffusion of large hydrocarbons and exceptionally give high selectivity for light olefins. However, its main drawback is rapid catalytic deactivation by heavy hydrocarbons confined inside the cages. Here, we report a facile synthetic strategy for submi...

We report the fabrication of bimetallic NiCo2Se4 and CoNi2Se4 nanostructures on nickel-foam (Ni-foam) substrates via a potentiostatic-deposition method by adjusting the molar ratio of Ni and Co metals. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses show that burl-like clusters with characteristic fluffy NiCo2Se4 and flake-like CoNi2Se4 hierarchical structures were deposited on the Ni-foam substrates. When used as battery-type electrodes in supercapacitors, both NiCo2Se4 and CoNi2Se4 electrodes exhibited outstanding capacity and good electrochemical properties. The CoNi2Se4 electrode ...

Publication date: 15 January 2020Source: Journal of Alloys and Compounds, Volume 813Author(s): Yansheng Li, Cheng Qu, Jinhui Wang, Rui XuAbstractIn this paper, the solution-treated Mg–Y-Nd-Gd-Zr alloy was subjected to high pressure torsion (HPT) processing with 5 revolutions at room temperature, followed by aging at various temperatures and time periods. The aging behaviour of HPT-processed samples was systematically studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, high resolution high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) and hardness testing. We found that the optimal aging ...

ConclusionsThese results provide evidence that the impaired cognitive flexibility of OCD may be associated with dysfunctions of the brain network from the dorsal caudate (DC) to important nodes of the salience network. Our results extend the neuropsychological model of OCD by showing intrinsically different associations between OCD and HC in functional network and cognitive flexibility.
