Oxycontin maker launches initiative to tackle opioid crisis in North Carolina

Purdue Pharma L.P., the maker of the painkiller OxyContin, is partnering with two local groups to start a program that seeks to curtail opioid abuse in North Carolina. Purdue will work with Project Lazarus, a nonprofit in Wilkes County, and Safe Kids North Carolina, a unit in the N.C. Department of Insurance, to launch the North Carolina Disposal Initiative.
