Translating the WHO 25x25 goals into a UK context: the PROMISE modelling study
Conclusions The global premature mortality targets are a potentially achievable goal for countries such as the UK that can capitalise on many decades of effort in prevention and treatment. High morbidity diseases and diseases in later life are not addressed in the Global NCD Action Plan and targets, but must also be considered a priority for prevention in the UK where the population is ageing and the costs of health and social care are rising.
ConclusionsThis study shows that a relapse is accompanied by an increase in MS-related fatigue. Moreover, autonomic dysfunctions and introversion, more than depression and apathy, play a major role in the explanation of MS-related fatigue. This finding represents additional evidence for the relationship between inflammation, vagal afferent signalling, autonomic dysfunctions, introversion and the feeling of MS-related fatigue.KeywordsMultiple Sclerosis, fatigue, relapse, autonomic dysfunctions, vagal afferents
Publication date: Available online 17 September 2019Source: Multiple Sclerosis and Related DisordersAuthor(s): Mihaela Bustuchina VlaicuAbstractThis is a review paper, essentially a commentary with summary of literature that actualizes the problem of epilepsy in patients with multiple sclerosis. There is a bidirectional relation between multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. A possible associate pathophysiological pathway is considered. In multiple sclerosis, a combination of grey matter involvement and inflammation could influence epileptogenesis. Patients with multiple sclerosis have individual profiles and an inter-individual...

Using these data, the number of cases and annual prevalence of diabetic macrovascular complications in individuals with DM were stratified by age and sex.ResultsThe prevalence of DM with either stroke or cardiovascular disease (CVD) showed a decreasing trend in enrolled patients with DM (p for trend
This study shows that mRNA levels of the aging related lamin A splice variant progerin, associated with premature aging in HGPS, were significantly upregulated in subjects with BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2. Moreover, our data revealed a significantly positive correlation of BMI with progerin mRNA. These data provide to our knowledge for the first-time evidence for a possible involvement of progerin in previously observed accelerated aging of overweight and obese individuals potentially limiting their longevity. Our results also showed that progerin mRNA was positively correlated with C-reactive protein (CRP). This might suggest an as...
