A Single US Center Experience of Transbronchial Lung Cryobiopsy for Diagnosing Interstitial Lung Disease With a 2-Scope Technique

Conclusion: TBLC with a 2-scope technique could be an alternative method for diagnosing various types of ILD in patients unfit for surgical lung biopsy. Further prospective studies should clarify its role in the diagnostic armamentarium for undiagnosed ILDs.

Conclusions: Severe malaria is a highly frequent event in pregnant women, without differences by Plasmodium species. It shows early recognizable dangers signs. Hospital under-reporting was identified in 88% of severe cases as well as a lack of laboratory tests for a more comprehensive diagnosis. A protocol for the clinical diagnosis of pregnant women with malaria is required. PMID: 31529822 [PubMed - in process]

This study evaluated the impact of preoperative clopidogrel exposure on outcomes of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).MethodsPatients undergoing isolated CABG from January 2010 to February 2018 at a single institution were included. Primary stratification was based on exposure to clopidogrel within 5 days of CABG. Primary outcomes included blood product transfusion and mediastinal reexploration for bleeding. Secondary outcomes included early and late mortality, major postoperative complications, and hospital readmissions. Multivariable Cox regression was used to evaluate the risk-adjusted impact of preoperative clopid...

BalkhyRobotic-assisted approaches in cardiac surgery are becoming an increasingly common form of minimally invasive surgery. Recent literature has shown robotic-assisted techniques to be superior to traditional sternotomy in infection rates, bleeding, length of hospital stay, and postoperative quality of life. Although there are growing numbers of centers performing robotic mitral valve (MV) surgery, this approach is usually reserved for first-time MV repair. This ...

Conclusion: Cryobiopsy is safe procedure with low incidence of serious complications (major bleeding or pneumothorax) even when it is performed without fluoroscopy. Results in our study showed lower proportion of definitive diagnosis established after cryobiopsy which can be partly explained with the lack of pathologist's experience when we started the study.
