Area hospitals prepare for physician shortage
With updated data projecting a potential physician shortage of more than 100,000 nationwide by 2030, Pittsburgh's smaller regional hospitals have already begun planning for the future.
According to a report released this week by the Association of American Medical Colleges, the U.S. is projected to experience a dearth of between 7,300 and 43,100 primary care physicians, and between 33,500 and 61,800 nonprimary specialists by 2030.
