Central nervous system (CNS) TB includes clinical entities: tuberculous meningitis, intracranial tuberculoma, and clinical features of CNS TB in the elderly may be atypical, non-specific, and confused with concomitant age-related diseases. Atypical clinical manifestations of TB in older persons can result in delay in diagnosis and initiati...

Mahizhaveni, Azger Dusthackeer, Paul Agastian, Galal Ali Esmail, Abdul-Kareem Mohammed Ghilan, Naif Abdullah Al-Dhabi, Mariadhas Valan ArasuAbstractThe present context was investigated to purify and characterize anti-tubercular as well as anticancer protein from fermented food associated Staphylococcus hominis strain MANF2. Initially, the anti-tubercular potency of strain MANF2 was assessed against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv using luciferase reporter phase assay which revealed pronou...

Daurelio, Luis EstebanAbstractRenal and extrarenal production of the active form of vitamin D, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2D), is catalyzed by CYP27B1, an enzyme also called 1-α-hydroxylase. The overproduction of 1,25(OH)2D has been described in granulomatous diseases. High circulating concentrations of 1,25(OH)2D can lead to hypercalcemia. The aim of this work was to characterize the transcriptional regulation of CYP27B1 in human mononu...

This study aimed to establish a method for selectively extracting amyloids from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) specimens by organic solvent instead of LMD. The extracts using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), dimethylformamide (DMF), methanol, trifluoroethanol (TFE) or hexafluoro-2-propanol from FFPE brain of alzheimer’s disease mouse model generated protein bands on SDS-PAGE, and Aβ was identified in the extract of DMF using mass spectrometry. The extract using DMSO from the kidney of a AA amyloidosis patient produced a protein band in SDS-PAGE. This protein band was identified to be serum amyloid A (SAA) by...

ConclusionCryobiopsy is easier and more efficient than biopsy with conventional forceps. Our findings in these patients suggest that semi-rigid thoracoscopic cryobiopsy might be a useful alternative diagnostic method for undiagnosed pleural effusion in elderly patients.

ConclusionsTB can have varied presentation and therefore it is essential to keep tubercular infection in differential diagnosis while working up for any infective pathology. Conservative treatment produces good results in vast majority of cases. Surgery is reserved for select indications.

Chopra, Shweta SinghAbstractTB has remained a disease of Public Health Importance since ages affecting more than 10 million people globally and taking lives of 2 million people worldwide people every year. Despite of the dramatic improvements made in providing high-quality TB diagnostic services, since the discovery of the causative bacilli, many people with TB remain undiagnosed or get diagnose only after long delays. Ten countries account for 77% of this gap and use only smear microscopy for diagnosis, which fo...

Conclusion: 3DSTE is a feasible tool for the detailed assessment of LV deformation in HES and ALA patients. Significant LV deformational abnormalities could be detected in both groups. In the case of ALA, these abnormalities are more prominent. Orv Hetil. 2020; 161(5): 169-176. PMID: 31984773 [PubMed - in process]
