How is tinnitus influenced by cochlear implantation?
CONCLUSION: CI significantly reduces the subjectively perceived impairment, although the reduction in the subjectively perceived loudness of the tinnitus is not significant. PMID: 28271241 [PubMed]
Conclusions: Cochlear implantation in cases of substantial UHL may offer significant improvements in quality of life. Quality of life measures revealed a reduction in perceived tinnitus severity and subjective improvements in speech perception in noise, spatial hearing, and listening effort. While self-report of difficulties were lower for the UHL cohort than the conventional CI and EAS cohorts, subjects in all 3 groups reported an improvement in quality of life with CI use.Audiol Neurotol 2017;22:259-271
AbstractObjectiveThe present study was conducted to compare the rates of recovery from idiopathic sudden deafness after the treatment with oral and intratympanic corticosteroids in both mono and combination therapies.Study designTriple-blind randomized clinical trial.SettingsTertiary referral hospital.Subjects and methodsA total of 112 patients who were admitted to the ENT emergency department randomly divided into three groups: an oral corticosteroid plus intratympanic placebo (systemic corticosteroid monotherapy group); an intratympanic corticosteroid plus oral placebo group (IT monotherapy group); and a combination ther...
Conclusions: Following GJB2, STRC was the second most frequently mutated gene in patients from the Czech Republic with hearing loss. To decrease the cost of testing, we recommend STRC deletion screening with MLPA before next-generation sequencing. The existence of a pseudogene and polymorphic STRC regions can lead to false-positive or false-negative results when copy number variation analysis is based on next-generation sequencing data.
Abstract The interrogation is essential to trace the genesis of the tinnitus and to appreciate its repercussion. Clinical examination should look for a local, vascular or cervical cause. The ENT consultation with audiogram and tinnitus evaluation is essential to know the characteristics of the tinnitus and to consider the treatment. If tinnitus is accompanied by a decrease in hearing, then wearing hearing aids can correct deafness and decrease the tinnitus. The psychological impact of tinnitus must always be taken into account and the use of a multidisciplinary team is an interesting solution. Medical treatments a...
CONCLUSION: In our series, QOL is not influenced in patients with unilateral untreated small VS in comparison to Germany's general population. This is helpful information when advising patients during follow-up and finding out the optimal timing of individual treatment. PMID: 29048255 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
CONCLUSIONS: Microsurgery represents the first therapeutic option for small growing VS with SUH. Our data confirm that key-hole RS removal of VS with intraoperative LS-CE-Chirp ABR monitoring allows good rate of SUH preservation, especially maximum diameter does not exceed 2cm. Preoperative tinnitus seems to indicate a lower hearing reserve and predicts a lower likelihood of HP. PMID: 28945052 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Tinnitus is where a person hears sounds within the ear, such as ringing. Pulsatile tinnitus is when the sounds are in time to the beat of their pulse.
Research suggests that selective-serotonin reuptake inhibitors - a common class of antidepressants - could lead to the exacerbation of tinnitus.
This study enrolled 20 subjects with congenital SSD and 44 subjects with acquired SSD and examined the presence and characteristics of tinnitus in the groups. None of the 20 subjects with congenital SSD perceived tinnitus on the affected side, whereas 30 of 44 subjects with acquired SSD experienced tinnitus on the affected side. Additionally, there were significant positive correlations between tinnitus characteristics and the audiometric characteristics of the SSD. In accordance with the findings of the recent animal study, tinnitus was absent in subjects with congenital SSD, but relatively frequent in subjects with acqui...
