Conclusions: Decisions regarding the use of HT in women who undergo BSO after detection of a BRCA mutation must be individualized based on careful consideration of the risks and benefits. However, the risks of a subsequent cancer diagnosis appear small, particularly in regards to the benefits of treatment afforded by HT.

Abstract Memories are stored in synapses that consist of axon terminals and dendritic spines. Dendritic spines are postsynaptic structures of synapses and are essential for synaptic plasticity and cognition. Therefore, extensive investigations concerning the functions and structures of spines have been performed. Sex steroids and stress steroids have been shown to modulate hippocampal synapses. Although the rapid modulatory action of sex steroids on synapses has been studied in hippocampal neurones over several decades, the essential molecular mechanisms have not been fully understood. Here, a description of kinase‐depen...

Conclusions Exogenous testosterone inhibits spermatogenesis. Hypogonadal men wanting to preserve their fertility and at the same time benefiting from TRT effects can be prescribed selective oestrogen receptor modulators or testosterone plus low-dose human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG). Patients treated for infertility with hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism can be prescribed hCG alone at first followed by or in combination from the start with follicle-stimulating hormone preparations.

Conclusions: Lifestyle factors, such as HRT and smoking are differentially associated with the risk of MSI-H and MSS CRC. Further research on associations of lifestyle factors and CRC subtypes is necessary to provide a better understanding of the CRC disease pathway. PMID: 29438474 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

New determinants for gallstone disease?
. Dan Med J. 2018 Feb;65(2): Authors: Shabanzadeh DM Abstract Gallstone disease is highly prevalent in Denmark and other countries of northern Europe, and cholecystectomy for the treatment of clinical gallstone disease is one the most frequently performed surgical procedures. Research efforts for the identification of mechanisms involved in gallstone formation have a long history and the most established include bile cholesterol saturation, gallbladder motor function, and the enterohepatic circulation of secondary bile salts produced by fecal microbiota. A smal...

CONCLUSION: TM is associated with both hypersensitivity and a bleeding tendency. This study revealed no significant increase in the incidence of haemostatic abnormalities in patients with TM compared with the control group. Given the significant association with hypersensitivity disorders, the underlying mast cell hyper-reactivity may contribute to both hypersensitivity and a bleeding tendency and predispose patients to TM. AbstractRationale:Argininemia is an autosomal recessive inherited disorder of the urea cycle. Because of its atypical symptoms in early age, diagnosis can be delayed until the typical chronic manifestations – including spastic diplegia, deterioration in cognitive function, and epilepsy – appear in later childhood.Patient concerns:A Chinese boy initially presented with severe stunting and partial growth hormone deficiency (PGHD) at 3 years old and was initially treated with growth hormone replacement therapy. Seven years later (at 10 years old), he presented with spastic diplegia, cognitive function lesions, epi...
