TEVAR for Adult Coarctation of the Aorta

A 63 year old male was referred by cardiothoracic surgeons for endovascular repair of an aortic coarctation with post-stenotic dilatation (magnetic resonance angiogram; A, asterisk), following bicuspid aortic valve and aortic root repair. He underwent thoracic aortic relining using a 32 –201 mm Zenith Alpha endoprosthesis (Cook Aortic Intervention, Bloomington, IN, USA). Moulding balloon angioplasty of the coarctation increased the 11 mm aortic lumen to>19  mm (computed tomography angiogram; B). Intra-operative intimal disruption of the pre-coarctation aorta emphasised the fragile nature of this area, vindicating use of a stent graft.
